It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to the lush green, eco friendly spacious campus of Goalpara College. The college has emerged as a premier higher educational institute imparting education to almost three thousand students from Assam, Meghalaya and neighbouring West Bengal. The three streams Science, Arts and Commerce with more than 17 departments are the fruit of some great freedom fighters of the region. Once liberated from the clutches of foreign rule these pioneers of western Assam took the initiative of establishing the College in 1950s. Great values enshrined in our Constitution and visions of Gandhi and Nehru have been inspiring the College since its inception. Former principal and noted intellectual Dr. Mahendra Bora imagined the College motto Cross is the Crown, signifying that sacrifice and suffering bring success and achievements.

The College places premium on individual excellence. We do not expect everyone, who comes here to be at the top of their respective field, but we do expect them to put in their best. Students are encouraged to think, to act in a responsible manner and to take those bold steps that will help push the limits of intellectual curiosity have added value in terms of ideas, experience and commitment to the society and the world at large. While ideas are important the college has through its service and mission, underlined the fact that it is only through people that the ideas gain relevance, or else they remain abstract and very often sadly irrelevant. We constantly evaluate our students through different internal examinations and structured programme. Apart from fulfilling UGC, NAAC requirement from time to time, the college has got the Star College status by DST and the college has been getting fund from different departments including government of Indias DBT schemes.

Our journey is not just about teaching the curriculum rather it is about holistic development of all our students. Our highly acclaimed faculties trained at leading universities of the country not only deliver the curriculum but also take active part in overall growth of the personality of the students. Alongside its rigorous academic standards the college maintains a vibrant tradition of co-curricular activities. Our students form and develop their academic ideas along with active engagement in the field of NSS, NCC, sports, theatre, debate, music and fine arts. The college has a state of the art infrastructure with computer laboratory, air conditioned seminar room with LCD projectors, we have a modern library with thousand of books, journal including e-journals. The library is connected with INFLIBNET. Besides, through distance and open learning thousands of students have been pursuing education up to PG level under GU IDOL and KKHSOU. Goalpara College is known for enforcing strict discipline in class room, campus and hostels. Many new initiatives have been taken up by the college authority to update its infrastructure. These include enhancing the facilities of online education through digital mode, opening of third hostel for girls, three new digital class rooms, up gradations of college field etc. In collaboration with District Administration and financial support from NEC we are working for establishing a Community Radio Station in the college campus.
