National Service Scheme (NSS)






The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India under Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes.The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.

NSS of Goalpara College consist of two units, each with 100 volunteers. Both the units are affiliated to Gauhati University NSS Cell under the Regional Directorate of NSS, NE Region, Guwahati. The unit adopted a village named ‘Kuruabhasa’ which is about 8 km far from Goalpara College. The village is mostly dominated by ST community.

The NSS Badge
• The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.
• Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
• The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Motto:
The motto of National Service Scheme is “NOT ME BUT YOU”

• Rich cultural diversity of India.
• History of our diversified culture.
• National pride through knowledge about India.
• To integrate the nation through social service.

Achievement of NSS Goalpara College Unit:
• Babita Choudhury of NSS, Goalpara College Unit got 2nd position (Women Category) in the North-East Level Plogging Challenge 2.0 (2nd to 12th October 2022) organized by GU NSS Cell association with GU Campus NSS unit.
• NSS volunteer Jahangir AlomMollah, Goalpara College participated in 'Yuva Sangam' youth exchange program of Govt of India under the aegis of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' in IIT, Jammu from 3-9 March, 2023.
• 31 days (1st to 31st October 2022) #CleanIndia2 by NSS, Goalpara College. 768 kg (approx) plastic trash collected & disposed. Places: Puja pandals, Idol immersion areas, Railway station, Bus stations, Market etc.
• Six volunteers of Goalpara College NSS Unit along with Programme Officer participated in the State Level NSS Mega Camp otganized at Rangapara College, Sonitpur from 18th to 21st March, 2023.
• Programme Officer Dr. Jugabrat was selected to lead Assam Contingent in the Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp at Kolkata from 16th to 25th November, 2022.
• Programme Officer Dr. Jugabrat Das was selected to lead NSS North East Contingent in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi on 26th January 2023.

Some Activities of NSS, Goalpara College Unit:
Session: 2020-2021:
• Programme on plastic waste materials cleaning inside the college campus on 28/12/2020 from 1.00 pm onwards.
• Webinar on the occasion of International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on 26st June 2021.
• Plantation drive in and around the Goalpara College campus on the occasion of World Environment Day, 2021.
• International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2021, Resource person: Mrs. Himadree Nath Kataky.
• World water Day with a day long programme at the Teachers’ Common Room of Goalpara College, Goalpara.
• Cleanliness drive in the Goalpara College Campus on 09/01/2021 to clean the campus.
• One day awareness programme on First Aid on 19th January, 2021.
• Cleanliness drive was organized in the Goalpara College Campuson 13th November, 2020.

Session: 2021-2022:
• Distribution of flood relief to the affected inhabitants of Bhaiskhuli village of Goalpara district on 2nd July 2022.
• Blood Donation Camp on 10th May 2022 in association with Joint Directorate of Health Services, Goalpara.
• Plantation on the occasion of Van Mahotsav, 2022 (1st to 7th July, 2022).
• Seven Days Digital Literacy Campaign from 2nd July to 8th July 2022.
• Popular lecture on the occasion of World Population Day, 2022 on 11th July 2022.
• Cleaning of plastic waste materials and de-weeding of growing saplings at Collegeon 13th July 2022.
• Making of thousand (1000 nos) numbers of paper bags on 14th July 2022.
• Awareness campaign among Street Vendor on digital receipt/payment using UPI, QR Codes, PayTM etc. on 18th July 2022.
• Community teaching during summer vacation among the students of Class 4 to 6 on 25th July 2022.
• Community teaching among Lower and Upper primary students during the summer vacation period at Helapakhri village on 27th July 2022.
• Distribution ofself made Paper Bag to the Shop Keepers to motivate them to use Paper bags instead of polythene bag on 28th July 2022.
• Shramdaan by Jahangir AlomMollah to repair the Katcha road from Forestgate bazar to Mespara village on 29th July 2022.
• Volunteers visit to total 115 households in different localities from 1st August, 2022 to 15th August 2022 to disseminate awareness about the ‘harghartriranga’Programme.
• On the Occasion of birth anniversary of PingaliVenkayya, special online talk on "The life of PingaliVenkayya" on 2nd August 2022.
• Cleaning the statue of founder President of Goalpara College Governing Body Late Khagendra Nath Nath on 10th August 2022.
• Cycle Rallyto celebrate the International Youth Day, 2022 and #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav on 12th August 2022.
• Walkathon & a rally to celebrate the 75 glorious years of India's Independence on 13th August 2022.
• Quiz Competition among the students on "India's Freedom Movement" in connection to the celebration of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav on 14th August 2022.
• Distribution of sweets to the differently abled street baggers on this 76thIndependence Day.
• Survey in different households on the Orunodoi scheme of Govt. of Assam after training on 25th August 2022.
• Basic Life Support Training Program in collaboration with Ayursundra Super Specialty Hospitalon 26th August 2022.
• National Sports Day, 2022 celebrationby organizing a volleyball competition among the volunteers and students on 29th August 2022.
• Workshop on U-Report (For Suraksha Campaign) among volunteers and students on 1st September 2022.
• International Vulture Awareness Day 2022 was observed on 3rd September 2022.
• International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer observed on 16th September 2022.

• Yoga & Fit India Freedom Run performed by as a part of #FitIndiaMovement on 28th October 2022.
• Unity Pledge & performed Unity run along with Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Goalpara on 31st October 2022.
• UnityPledge was administered by NSS Programme Officer to the Volunteers, Students & Teachers of Goalpara College in vernacular language (Assamese) on the NationalUnityDay, 2022.
• Rally on ending violence against women and girls/gender equality on 8th December 2022.
• On the occasion of International Human Rights Day 2022, PO Dr. Jugabrat Das administered the Human Rights Pledge to all the volunteers and students on 10th December 2022.
• Jahangir AlomMollah engaged in a Covid Vaccination program along with health workers on 16th December 2022.
• Participation in the Training program on Cyber safety and Tele fraud Awareness organized by Goalpara Police on 20th December 2022.
• Participation in the Cyclothonorganised by Goalpara College in connection with Celebrating India's G20 Presidency on 1st February 2022.
